Finally an actual studio
I finally got the plaster board walls covered in thick lining paper to make them look less DIYish and I finally invested in some acoustic foam panels and bass traps.
I also finally took down the fluorescent strip lighting and fitted a couple of pendant fittings instead leaving a wiring loom on the ceiling. So I just need some trunking to cover that. And also need a bass trap to hang from ceiling above desk.
Had some late night recording and drinking this long Easter weekend. Just talking in there you notice a difference with the foam and playing twangy guitar bits is no longer a reverb disaster.
Bass is tighter, more punchy and no longer gets louder at the other end of the room.
Definitely worth sorting acoustics out no matter what speakers you have.
I’m using the tannoys now as well as my B speakers as they very quickly help me notice if a mix has gone sour (listening to a mix repeatedly for an hour while you fiddle with FX clouds your judgement on the Rokits)
All in all a usable music studio which I no longer have to leave & listen to a mixdown in house then go back and EQ from memory to stop it sounding lifeless if out of the garage.
