IIS 7.5 Performance Tuning
I’ve been investigating the speed of page loads for PHP/ MySQL dynamic sites running on WS08 R2. This can seem sluggish out-the-box when compared to the likes of an Ubuntu Server running Apache/ PHP/ MySQL, running on similar hardware.
There are a number of performance increases which can be gained with some simple tuning techniques and Add-ons for PHP. There is also tweaks which can be done for MySQL to cache queries and use more resources when available.
The work I’ve been doing is showing pages are loading 50% quicker now on the dynamic sites such as WordPress and phpBB3. The CPU usage has gone down and memory isn’t laying dormant and unused.
I would say it’s now more efficient than an equivalent Linux based host and still has all the benefits of Windows such as ease of administration, monitoring and security.
