Apple
It’s Geeker Time
I have noticed a steep decline in my geekyness since moving out which is mostly due to the retail therapy which it brought. With having to spend gadget money on necessities rather than niceities it means that I can’t obsess over a new toy for a week then use it occasionally.
I did get myself an dSLR, I bought it off Chris as he’d upgraded to a Canon 5D Mk2. I got his old Olympus e-500, 2x Lenses, a Bag and a 16GB compact flash for a very good price indeed. I’ve got into that a bit and I’ve got aperture on my Macbook.
I still have the studio although I thought it looked like a grotty den so I’ve had this week to sort things out. First things first, I didn’t feel the need for the Mac Pro to be in there. There is now a Quad Core PC in there with 4GB of Ram. I used to bootcamp the Mac Pro anyway and the PC which has bigger hard disks seems to render tunes quicker and still lets me layer up as many synths as I want. (The tune me and Jo Deviant are currently working on has 74 patterns and about 24 different instruments, it handles this fine)
So the Mac Pro is back in the house and wired to the router so I can sync to my Apple TV again. The problem is the Mac Pro was bare, but my Apple TV is hacked and has SSH on so I SCP’d all of my Music and films off my Apple TV (in their 4 character file name format) and then imported them to my fresh iTunes library and synced them back. I’m going transfer the Photos from Aperture on my MacBook to Light Room on my Mac Pro and start using that for Photos.
So the studio, I’ve covered the nasty felt desk with Hardboard using Builders adhesive, screws and countersunk washers. I’ve then trimmed off the felt round the edges and build in some extra structure to the desk to make it more sturdy and give me more space.
I have also sealed all the gaps in my Garage with strips of Pipe Insulation.
MacBook
I ended up with the Mac Mini again but then it made me realise that I need a decent laptop for Work and don’t really need to use my Mac Pro for browsing etc.
I’ve decided the Mac pro and all studio/ music gear can go in the other room which can be a semi-dedicated studio and then my current room can stay as my film/ chillaxing room. I’ll leave the glass desk in here for my MacBook to live on.
I went for the 2GHz 13″ MacBook with SuperDrive, 2GB Ram and 160GB HDD. I’m going to upgrade the HDD to a 7200rpm one like I did in the Mac Mini the first time round. I’ll also upgrade the Ram to 4GB. It’s DDR3 now so it should be quite good, I’ll wait for the price to drop though as it becomes more popular.
We went to the Apple Store at Meadowhall today and I bought a Dock for my iPhone 3G and a Mini-DVI to DVI lead. I was tempted by the Airport Extreme but it’s going to have to be a purchase in the new year as I can’t justify the spendature due to just buying this MacBook. I got a good deal on it though thanks to Chris so It’s all good.
If Santa listened ot music, he’d have an iPod Touch!!
The Station of Play
What’s new? Well my Xbox decided to lock up half way through a big race on Forza 2 the weekend before last, out of sheer annoyance I went out and bought a Sony Playstation 3. I felt the need.
I now have GT5 Prologue, Rainbow 6 Vegas 2, GRID and Grand Theft Auto 4. I am really impressed with the console. I am using EyeConnect to stream all my media from my Mac Pro to my TV (at least I was…)
I’ve just moved my Mac Pro next to my TV, it’s now plugged using an Optical Audio lead and a decent quality HDMI lead. The PS3 is all opticalled up into my Marantz cinema amp aswell, as is the TV. It’s all digital interconnectivity which I feel is only fitting for the 21st century.
I bought my first Blueray DVD yesterday and watched it last night, RAMBO! Brilliant film and awesome in HD. I spoke to Chris from work who advised that Rambo was a good first choice as it’s a really good Demo of HD Films.
I’ve even started using iTunes to buy films, I bought Drillbit Taylor on Saturday and watched that. I have US iTunes account now for purchases. It means I can get stuff cheaper and sooner. (iTunes US for the Win!)
We are getting more interest in JDM LIFE now. We are looking at changing certain aspects and now have 3 dedicated Administrators. We are currently looking into ways to develop JDM Nights. The cars are all stickered up with the JDMLIFE vinyl cuts and people are starting to hear about it. Hopefully it’ll kick off soon.
Google is my next target, we easily got knocked off the top spot by Dave and his blog, just to prove a point. I think I annoyed him by having JDM Alloy Wheels, when some of his customers could do with that domain.
Renault World Series
I wish WWDC 2008 was on TV instead of Bill Bloody Oddy! Why apple have decided to sell coverage of WWDC 2008 I’m not sure? It’s abit like selling somebody your business proposal.
This weekend has been good, BBQ friday night, gym Saturday day then back round to Mark’s for another BBQ. I took the decks with me, Jody was round aswell and Dave was up. Best newcomer award goes to Mark though as he pulled off a few good mixes, which isn’t bad to say he’d never touched a pair of decks before saturday night.

On Sunday we went to Silverstone (Me, Dave, Mark and James). We were there for about 4 hours, watched all sorts of french s**t go round the track
As it was over 25 degrees and I forgot my suncream… I am now very burned and painful.
